The value of the Thai government’s e-auctions is expected to reach 240 billion baht this year, up 33% over 2007, as the new government will try to lift spending amid pressure to cut costs.

Online auctions are projected to save about 20 billion baht or 8% below normal transactions said Pantavanij Co Ltd, Thailand’s first and leading provider of e-procurement and e-marketplaces.

Colonel Rangsee Kitiyanasap, the company’s adviser, said e-auction transactions are expected to account for almost 60% of the government’s overall investment and procurement spending of 404 billion baht this year.

The figure would jump from 180 billion baht spent on e-auctions last year when government procurement spending totalled 318 billion baht.
